Potty Training Question

Thursday, January 31, 2008

Ok, so I’ve decided that we are going to put potty training on hold. We aren’t getting anywhere. Tuesday night, Elle sat on the potty for 45 minutes while watching American Idol. Nothing happened. I had her drink 2 cups of milk while sitting there (a little tip from Kate on “John and Kate Plus 8“). Still nothing. All she wanted to do was cuddle. She kept saying “Cuddle Mommy” & wanted me to sit on the floor next to her and cuddle with her while she sat on the potty. It was awkward.

So here is my question, I’ve decided to put things on hold a little while, should I keep the potty chair out in our bathroom or is it best to start over completely later?

Vocal “Moaning?”

Thursday, January 31, 2008

I’m sure I have mentioned this before but Elle loves her some music. Lately she has had Joe & I cracking up in the car. She often passes the time by singing. She currently loves to sing the ABCs. I bet you’re thinking that she must be a genius, what 20 month old can sing her ABCs! Well, let’s just say that does pretty much only knows the tune and a few random letters. For the rest, she completely makes up sounds & I almost pee my pants every time. Yesterday we were listening to the newest Alisha Keys album in the car & she is trying to sing along with Miss Keys’ vocal “moaning” (I don’t know what else to call it).

I’m hoping Joe can help me post a video of her singing Twinkle Twinkle Little Star tomorrow.

Are You Going Through Withdrawls???

Thursday, January 31, 2008

It’s been 2 whole day’s since I’ve blogged!  Are you going through withdrawls?  I sure am.  Things have been busy lately & I’ve got a big case of the blahs.  Come back tonight, I’ll write more, I promise.

I’m praying for a blizzard this afternoon, I want to get home from work safely, stay home for a couple days, eat pancakes for every meal & play outside with Elle 🙂  Here is a picture of us during her 1st snow last winter.

10,000

Monday, January 28, 2008

My dad called me this morning to inform me that yesterday I turned 10,000 days old. I’m not sure why he was figuring out how many days old I am…maybe a weird sermon illustration?? My first thought was, hmmm…that’s odd because I will probably hit the 10,000 hits mark on my blog today. I have been blogging for almost 4 months & I have loved every moment of it. My good friend Sarah Jane just started blogging & isn’t quite ready to tell anyone her blog address yet (I think she might like to tease me b/c they didn’t tell us her baby’s name before she was born either). She said she isn’t’ sure that she is ready to “put herself out there yet.” I had never really thought about blogging like that before. For me it is therapy & I’m always surprised by how many people check out my blog each day to see what is happening in my world. I’m also often surprised by how some of the comments on my blog. I love reading your comments and getting ideas from many of them. Sometimes I want to go and re-write a post when I see reactions so I can better explain myself. More than anything it is incredibly reassuring to read comments from others saying that what I am going through (especially when it comes to parenting) is completely normal. I like being normal 🙂

Ticking Time Bomb

Monday, January 28, 2008

That phrase describes my daughter perfectly these days. It is 10:30 and we have already and 3 breakdowns (and we’ve only been up for an hour).

Breakdown #1: Wanted Rigby to catch the tennis ball she was throwing. Rigby finally cooperated, and she cried & scream because she wanted the ball back.

Breakdown #2: It was 10 & she didn’t want to eat breakfast (scrabbled eggs), but lunch isn’t too far away. Flailed her arms & legs while I buckled her into her seat. Screamed for about 1 minute & then scarfed down 3 eggs.

Breakdown #3: Wanted to wipe off her Dora place mat but apparently I didn’t get her a wet wipe quick enough. Screaming was the only reasonable response to my snail like pace.

The next breakdown may be mine…
