Love At First Sight

Saturday, May 31, 2008

Mom forced me to go to Pier 1 with her tonight. I fought her and said, “NO, I hate that store!” Ok, so that wasn’t exactly how it went down…but it was her idea. The moment we walked into the store, my eye’s locked on a beautiful sight. It called me to it…we were meant to be together.

I heart you, table runner (aka race track for cars).

To Speak Or Not To Speak

So I always feel really awkward when I take Elle to get her pictures taken at a professional studio. I never know quite how much I need to do. Do I get down there and help the photographer or do I lay back & let them do their job? No one has really come out and told me what is best. Sometimes I almost wonder if I should stand just around the corner from where they are & just listen. Anyone else feel that way when you take your kids in?

Yesterday my mom & I took Elle to get her 2 year portraits taken. Elle stared off strong & quickly took a nose dive. It was obvious that she is 2! It didn’t help matters that the photographer has exactly one trick up her sleeve. She kept pretend that she was going to tickle Elle feet. Literally, she did that 50 times. After the 4th time, Elle was like…”yeah right lady, you need to pull a different trick out of your bag.”

But of course she ended up getting about 500 gorgeous shots & I needed about 3 hours to talk myself out of buying every one of them.

Non-Work-Aholic

I’ve been at work 10 hours…and will be here for 2 to 3 more. I’m dying. How in the world to people work more than 8 hours a day?

So I thought I’d just update ya’ll on a few things.

-FE played a Battle of the Bands at Busch Stadium last night. The won 2nd place! They did a great job, and are a little glad they won 2nd so now they don’t have to sell tickets for the next round/game in July. It was fun…but a lot of work on their end. Thanks to all who came out. Btw, the CD release party last week was amazing. They had over 250 people come out. It was a TON of fun.

-My phone has been working since 7 last night…we’ll see if it lasts. If I have any issues I’m heading straight to the Sprint store. Joe’s traveling Thursday through Sunday & I want to be able to at least talk to him.

-Last night for dinner (at the game) Elle ate goldfish, raisins, and cotton candy.

-I need the carpet in our living room & hall cleaned. I’ve tried to do it on my own before with my in-laws carpet cleaner but I didn’t really help anything. Anyone ever use one of those carpet cleaners you can rent from the grocery store? Do they work well? Or does anyone in the STL area have a company that they recommend (that is reasonably priced)?

-My mom is in town for several weeks. Our sitter retired & the teenager that will be watching Elle for the summer is out of town until June 18th. So my mom is here to stay with Elle so I can still work. Not only did she offer to help with Elle but she did it knowing that she would have to sleep on an air mattress most of the time since my brother has moved in. Now that’s what being a mom is all about.

-I know I’ve been really photo heavy lately…but a family friend of ours is a great photographer (by hobby not trade). He got some amazing picture of EP’s birthday that I HAVE to show you.

Ok, please excuse the large trash can in the background. It rained ALL weekend leaving the ground very soggy & my house is itty bitty so we spent a lot of time in the garage & under a canopy in the driveway. It was classy.

She hugged & kissed everyone after she opened a gift from them.

Have Your People Call My People…Later

A few days back Heather blogged about her cell phone & how she doesn’t use it that much (click here to read that specific post). I really respect her for her ability to make her kids a priority over chatting on the phone. I wish I could say that I am the same. My cell phone is pretty much always in my pocket. Don’t get me wrong, I am not a phone talker, but I want to always be reachable. To make matters worse, we don’t have a land line at our house. We are a cell phone only family. Honestly, we aren’t home that much anyway & having one less bill a month is nice.

Well, today my precious cell phone isn’t working (I was hoping that it was a problem that all Sprint users where having…but I’m beginning to believe my phone is the issue). I didn’t think it would bother me as much as it has. It literally feels like everyone in the world NEEDS to talk to me TODAY. It isn’t true, at least I know if someone is trying to get a hold of me. When someone calls me the phone rings, I answer & hear nothing…and they person on the other line (after I call them on my work phone, because I can’t call out either) say that it just kept ringing, I never answered but it didn’t go to voicemail. The part the stinks the most, our phones aren’t up for renewal until July so if I want a new phone, no discount for me.

Umm, so what did people do before cell phones? Guess I’ll find out today & let you know.
