I think I have mentioned on here before that one of my little side jobs is to work as a wedding coordinator at our church. It a fun, little job that just adds a little cash to our bank account about 5 times a year. I’m finding that the older I get, the more I get choked up at weddings (we’re talking teary eyed, not tears running down my face). This last wedding I did, I found myself a tad more emotional than usual.
Surely, you all remember the Steven Curtis Chapman song “I Will Be Here.” Normally I would have totally rolled my eyes at that song. Way over done, remember 10 years ago when it was played at every wedding you attended. But this time it totally got to me. I started thinking about everything the Chapman family has been through in the past several month. It just amazes me that he wrote this song for his wife & now they are living exactly what he said. It could easily be just a sappy love song, but to see if being lived out first hand is pretty amazing. Here are the song lyrics (try not to tear up…I dare ya 🙂 )
I Will Be Here(Steven Curtis Chapman)
Tomorrow morning if you wake up
and the sun does not appear
I will be here
If in the dark, we lose sight of love
Hold my hand, and have no fear
‘Cause I will be here
I will be here
When you feel like being quiet
When you need to speak your mind
I will listen
And I will be here
When the laughter turns to cryin’
Through the winning, losing and trying
We’ll be together
I will be here
Tomorrow morning, if you wake up
And the future is unclear
I will be here
Just as sure as seasons were made for change
Our lifetimes were made for these years
So I will be here
I will be here
And you can cry on my shoulder
When the mirror tells us we’re older
I will hold you
And I will be here
To watch you grow in beauty
And tell you all the things you are to me
I will be here
I will be true to the promise I have made
To you and to the One who gave you to me
Tomorrow morning, if you wake up
And the sun does not appear
I will be here
Oh, I will be here.
