The Weekend of the Pumpkin

by

Pumpkins ended up being the theme of our weekend. We kicked it off on Saturday by making a trip to a super cute local pumpkin patch. The patch is literally a mile from our house on a farm (I had no idea that this farm was there) with horses, cows, goats, turkeys, donkeys, sheep, hay & lots of pumpkins. Plus, it was fun to support a local business rather than a big, commercialized patch. Elle had a ton of fun & even braved the short, dark, staw maze on her own. She picked out of those those teeny tiny pumpkins and was so excited that it had a little handle. I didn’t have the heart to tell her that it was a stem & they all have them.

Then tonight, we had Chris & Laura over & we they got busy carving. (I made some pumpkin bread & laid on the couch…it was nice). Laura made a fancy spider. It will be interesting to see Elle’s reaction to it, considering she is TERRIFIED of all bugs & spiders. Did I mention that Elle was in bed while we did all this? Is that cruel…or just smart? Joe & Chris made McCain & Obama. The resemblance is uncanny…especially when you consider that Joe drew them.

Here are the pictures from the weekend. Sorry I have been so lazy lately & keep posting them as a gallery, but feel free to click on them & see them bigger. Oh…btw, Kristi (Joe’s sister) was also in town for the weekend from Texas. We had dinner with her twice. Now she’s back to school, BOO 😦

Wow, those pumpkins ARE impressive! Nice work Joe!!

Kelli, what pumpkin patch did you go to? We went to Theis Farms this weekend, but I want to go to a smaller, closer (hopefully cheaper) patch closer to Halloweeen when my mom is here visiting.

Those pumpkins are amazing! Are you sure there isn’t some kind of pumpkin carving contest he could enter with those?

My favorite pic is the 2nd one in the top row. She just looks so happy with her little pumpkin! 😀

You are right, Ron, those carvings are scary good. I have to say, though, that a keener sense of accuracy would have placed McCain on the ‘right’ and Obama on the ‘left’. Otherwise, they are tremendous!

So…..I e-mailed the pumpkins to everyone in Roxana School District, and it was hard to convince them that Joe did indeed (and Jim…) create these. I need a picture of them, in the daylight, with Joe beside them!!!! Awesome……
