A Little Bit Of This And A Little Bit Of That

Monday, August 31, 2009

We’re going to go all “bullet style” today because my thoughts are a little jumbled and bullets make me look a bit more organized.

  • Last night was rough. Paisley decided that if she wasn’t being held that screaming was the only appropriate response. I was up with her from 1:30 until 4am & Joe lovingly took over for me from 4 until 6am when his alarm went off. I keep reminding myself to enjoy the overnight hours with her, they will soon be gone. Those reminders don’t really make you feel better at 3:30 in the morning.
  • The girls and I braved the grocery store for the first time today. This adventure was my most dreaded thought when it came to having another baby. BUT! But, it was fine. The store was nearly empty so that was good. Not sure it would have gone so well if the store had been busy or had I been in a rush. Elle did however feel like she needed to pretend eat everything we walked past.
  • I often have Elle help me remember to purchase certain things when we are about to go get groceries. Something like, “Elle, can you remind me to get banana’s when we are at the store?” She loves it & it seriously does help me (I am notorious for forgetting stuff at the store). But today she knew we were heading to get groceries and she said, “Mom, remind me to get donuts at the store, ok?” Ha! Smart kid.
  • Yesterday we ventured to church for the first time since Paisley’s arrival. It was so nice to be back. I always feel so weird when we miss church.
  • We told Elle about Brian Fellow’s passing last night. She instantly burst into tears. I was shocked. Not at all the reaction I expected. We really thought she would be more curious and less sad. She did calm down pretty quickly but she has mention him a couple times today. I did however crack up at Joe trying to sneak the fish to the toilet while I was consoling Elle. We hadn’t flushed him yet because we thought she may want to see him, but her reaction told us that we just need to move on. Joe quickly grabbed the fish bowl & walked backwards (past Elle) so she wouldn’t see what he had in his hands. It was a priceless parenting moment.
  • I love love love this autumn like weather. Windows are open & probably will be all week! Now if only my fall clothes would fit.

Mind Tricks

Wednesday, August 26, 2009

People warned me that after Paisley was born that Elle would seem huge to us. Man, they were so so so right. I didn’t really seem that way until we got home from the hospital & were greeted by a monster sized 3 year old. I picked her up the other day & nearly fell over because she was so heavy. It’s the weirded thing. Now I can hardly stand to pick her up at all. It’s the craziest feeling in the world. 2 weeks ago she was my little toddler who was on the petite side only standing as tall as the 35th percentile for her age…and overnight she grew tremendously and is soon going to be as tall as Robert Wadlow (a little Alton, IL trivia for ya).

Last night I attended a parent meeting at Elle’s preschool. On the drive there I started to get a little freaked out that she is going to be in preschool in 2 short weeks. It got me thinking about how quickly Elle got to this point in life & how it is only going to speed up more now that Paisley has entered the family. Plus, as I was sitting in the meeting last night I took a look around at the other parents and literally thought, “Wow, I’m a lot younger than all these other parents.” Only, not so much. In my head I’m still 18 (with 2 kids, right Kel) but in 2 weeks I’ll be 29. Interesting how Elle has grown so quickly but I haven’t changed a bit since freshman year of college!

Funny how your mind plays little tricks on you. Ok, now I’m off to play Candy Land with my giant 3 year old!

Our friend Tim (he did our family pictures back in November) came out late last week and took some pictures of Paisley. He just posted a little sneak peek. Hop over and check them out. I’m in love (especially considering how little Paisley cooperated. She screamed through 80% of the session.).

Poop Would Make Us All Happy

Sunday, August 23, 2009

She would be a much happier baby if she would just poop. She’s been awake nearly all afternoon. Only taken a few cat naps & that was only if I was holding her. Funny how quickly your life gets turned upside down and revolves around baby poop. I have a feeling that she is going to have the same gas issues that Elle had as an infant. We ended up having to get a prescription to help Elle pass gas.

Besides the poop (or lack of poop) things are great. She has been off the bilibed since Thursday! Elle has been adjusting pretty well to her new role. But I think the slow down of our crazy lifestyle has thrown her for a bit of a loop. Yesterday she asked if she could go to one of her babysitters houses. We’ve pretty much been hanging out at home for an entire week.

Tomorrow Joe heads back to work, so us girls will be flying solo. I’m sure it will be an interesting exhausting day.

WARNING: The following pics will make you all want to have more babies!
